प्रश्न और अभ्यास:

1. बनारस में  वसंत का आगमन कैसे होता हैं और उसका क्या प्रभाव इस शहर पर पड़ता हैं? 

उत्तर: सभी लोग वसंत के आने की प्रतीक्षा करते हैं।वसंत में चारों ओर हरियाली होती है। आसमान में पक्षी किलकारियां मारने लगते है। वसंत में सरसों के पीले खेत दिखाई देते है परंतु बनारस का वसंत अलग प्रकार का होता है।कवि के अनुसार बनारस में वसंत अपने साथ आँधी-धूल लेकर आता है।बनारस में हर तरफ़ केवल धूल होती है।मुँह में भी किरकिरी होने लगती है। इसी वजह से बनारस का वसंत अलग रूप से दिखता है।

2. ‘ख़ाली कटोरों में वसंत का उतरना' से क्या आशय है? 

उत्तर: कवि कहते हैं कि ख़ाली कटोरों में वसंत का आना दर्द लेकर आता है। दशाश्वमेध घाट पर बहुत अधिक भीड़ होती है। भिखारी भीख माँगने के लिए कहीं भी चले जाते हैं। वह गंगा किनारे चट्टानों के पास पहुँच जाते है। भिखारी ने हाथ में कटोरा पकड़ा हुआ है और लाश के पीछे भीड़ शान्ति से आगे बढ़ती है।कवि कहते हैं कि भिखारी को अपने कटोरे में कुछ मिल जाने की उम्मीद है। जब वह देखता है तो उसमें कुछ पैसे मिलते ही भिखारी को लगता है कि उसके कटोरे में भी बसंत आ गया है।

3. बनारस की पूर्णता और रिक्तता को कवि ने किस प्रकार दिखाया है? 

उत्तर: कवि केदारनाथ जी बनारस की पूर्णता को बताते हुए कहते हैं कि बनारस हर परिस्थिति में ख़ुश रहना जानता है। हर दुख और परेशानी के बाद भी वह उल्लास से भरा रहता है। कवि केदारनाथ जी मृत शरीरों के द्वारा बनारस की रिक्तता को दर्शाते हैं। कवि कहते हैं कि हर रोज़ अनगिनत शव गंगा घाट अंतिम संस्कार के लिए लाए जाते हैं, जो जीवन की अंतिम यात्रा को दर्शाते हैं यही बनारस की रिक्तता है।

4. बनारस में धीरे-धीरे क्या होता है? ‘धीरे-धीरे’ से कवि इस शहर के बारे में क्या कहना चाहता है? 

उत्तर: कवि केदारनाथ सिंह के अनुसार, बनारस शहर में, धूल धीरे-धीरे उड़ती है, लोग भी धीरे-धीरे चलते है, मंदिरो में घंटे भी धीरे-धीरे बजते है और शाम भी धीरे-धीरे होती है। कवि के अनुसार बनारस में सभी कार्य धीरे धीरे न वहाँ की विशेषता है। बनारस में सभी कार्यों का धीरे धीरे होना वहाँ को एक लय प्रदान करता है। बनारस में हो रहे बदलावों को दिखाने के लिए धीरे-धीरे शब्द का प्रयोग करते है। कवि के अनुसार पूरे विश्व में तेज़ गति से परिवर्तन हो रहा है। इस परिवर्तन के कारण सारी पुरानी चीज़ें लुप्त हो रही है। इस परिवर्तन  सभी लोग शामिल हो रहे है जिस से संस्कृति और सभ्यता नष्ट हो रही है। बनारस परिवर्तन से अभी प्रभावित नहीं हुआ है। यहाँ भी परिवर्तन हो रहा है परंतु धीरे-धीरे यह अलग रंग और संस्कृति  कारण और शहर से अलग है।

5. धीरे-धीरे होने की सामूहिक लय में क्या-क्या बँधा है?

उत्तर: बनारस शहर अपनी पुरानी सभ्यता और संस्कृति से बँधा हुआ है। धीरे-धीरे की सामूहिक लय  ही इसे मज़बूती प्रदान करती है। यहाँ प्राचीन काल से यथास्थिति बनी हुई है। गंगा जी को आज भी माता कहकर सम्बोधित किया जाता है तथा उनके तट पर बंधी नावें वही बंधी है जहाँ सदियों से बंधी आ रही है। संत कवि तुलसीदास जी की खड़ाऊँ भी अपने पूर्ववत स्थान पर सुसज्जित है। कवि का तात्पर्य यह है परिवर्तन की इस धीरे-धीरे लय के कारण बनारस मज़बूत हुआ है। अपने आस- पास के परिवर्तन से बनारस अछूता है। इसी कारण यहाँ की प्राचीन परम्पराएँ, संस्कृति, मान्यताएं, धार्मिक आस्थाएं, एेतिहासिक विरासत वैसी की वैसी है। यह शहर आधुनिकता से दूर है इसलिए अपने पुराने स्वरूप को संभाले हुए है। 

6. ‘सई साँझ’ में घुसने पर बनारस की किन-किन विशेषताओं का पता चलता है ?

उत्तर: कवि के अनुसार सई साँझ के समय यदि कोई बनारस शहर में जाता है, तो उसे निम्नलिखित  विशेषताओं का पता चलता है -

(क) बनारस के मंदिर में होने वाली आरती आसपास के वातावरण को आलोकित करती है।

(ख) आरती के दीप का प्रकाश बनारस शहर की सुंदरता को बढ़ाता है। 

(ग)  बनारस परचिंता तथा आधुनिकता का संगम है। यहाँ अभी भी प्राचीन मान्यताएं उपस्थित है तथा यह शहर आधुनिकता को भी अपना रहा है। 

(घ) गंगा घाट पर पूजा तथा शवों का दाह संस्कार एक साथ होता है जो जीवन के सत्य से परिचित कराता है।

7. बनारस शहर के लिए जो मानवीय क्रियाएँ इस कविता में आयी है उनका व्यंजनार्थ स्पष्ट कीजिए । 

उत्तर: इस कविता में बनारस शहर के लिए दो जगहों पर मानवीय क्रियाओं का प्रयोग हुआ है। वे कुछ इस प्रकार है -

(1) बनारस जैसे पुराने और महान शहर में जीभ किरकिराने लगती है - इसका अर्थ है कि बनारस में धूल भरी आँधी के कारण सभी गलियों में धूल उड़ती रहती है।

(2) बनारस अपनी एक टाँग पर खड़ा है और दूसरी टाँग से बिल्कुल बेख़बर है - इसका अर्थ है कि बनारस अपने अंदर ही इतना समाया हुआ है कि उसे बाहर होने वाले परिवर्तनों का पता ही नहीं चलता।बनारस आधुनिकता के बारे में बिल्कुल नहीं जानता।

8.शिल्प - सौंदर्य स्पष्ट कीजिए -

(क) ‘यह धीरे-धीरे होना ......... समूचे शहर को’ 

उत्तर: ‘धीरे-धीरे’ होना में पुनरुक्ति प्रकाश अलंकार है। कवि में बनारस में हो रहे परिवर्तनों की गति को इसके माध्यम से व्यक्त किया है। सुस्ती को बनारस की विशेषता बताया गया है। 

(ख) ‘अगर ध्यान से देखो ........ और आधा नहीं है’ 

उत्तर: कवि ने बनारस की विचित्रता को इन पंक्तियों के माध्यम से दिखाया है। कवि कहते है की बनारस में कुछ भी पूर्ण नहीं है। वह इस अधूरेपन को ‘आधा’ कहकर सम्बोधित करते है। इस पंक्ति में प्रतिकत्मकता का भाव स्पष्ट है तथा अनुप्रास अलंकार का प्रयोग है। 

(ग) ‘अपनी एक टाँग पर ......... बेख़बर’

उत्तर: इन पंक्तियो में कवि ने बनारस की आध्यात्मिकता का परिचय दिया है। बनारस पूरी तरह आध्यात्मिकता में डूबा हुआ है। बनारस विश्व में हो रहे परिवर्तन से बिलकुल अनजान है। इस पंक्ति में अनुप्रास अलंकार का प्रयोग है। प्रतिकत्मकता तथा लाक्षि्नकता का समावेश है। इस पंक्ति में ‘एक टाँग पर खड़ा होना’ महावरे का प्रयोग हुआ है।

दिशा 

प्रश्न और अभ्यास:

1. बच्चे का उधर-उधर कहना क्या प्रकट करता है?

उत्तर: बच्चे का उधर-उधर कहना उसकी पतंग की दिशा को प्रकट करता है। इस पंक्ति का आशय यह है की उस बच्चे को सिर्फ़ अपनी पतंग की दिशा का ज्ञान है। उसे यह ज्ञान नहीं है कि हिमालय किस दिशा में है।  सिर्फ़ एक ही दिशा का ज्ञान है वो है उसके पतंग की दिशा।

2. ‘मैं स्वीकार करूँ, मैंने पहली बार जाना हिमालय किधर है’ - प्रस्तुत पंक्तियो का भाव स्पष्ट कीजिए ।

उत्तर: इस पंक्ति के माध्यम से कवि कहना चाहता है की उसे ये ज्ञान है की हिमालय उत्तर दिशा में है। परंतु वह उस बालक से मिलकर समझ जाता है की वो ग़लत है। क्योंकि उस बालक के लिए दिशा का महत्व नहीं है। उसके लिए उसकी पतंग की दिशा सबसे महत्वपूर्ण है। वह अपनी पतंग को बस पा लेना चाहता है। इस पंक्ति  आशय यह है की हर व्यक्ति के सोचने का नज़रिया अलग-अलग होता है।

Banaras - Disha, Written by Shri Kedar Nath Singh

The Banaras poem highlights the typical Banarasi along with the cultural splendor of the oldest city of Banaras.

Varanasi is the center of holy faith and is the city of Shiva and the Ganga River. The poet describes the picture of the Ganga River, its banks called Ganga Ghats, temples, and the beggars sitting on the banks of temples, in this poem. Ganga banks are the places where it is assumed that the honeydew descends by the grace of God. Here every work is done in its own style, a mixed form of faith, reverence, detachment, trust, surprise, and devotion is shown in the Banaras poem. This poem opens the secrets of an ancient city; Banaras is a mythical city. This poem also describes the philosophical interpretation of this city. This poem has is written in a simple language, but has a deep meaning.

The second poem Disha is related to child psychology. The poet asks the child while flying a kite where the Himalayas are? The child answers that the Himalayas is where his kite is going to fly. The child’s answer triggers fascination in the poet’s mind. The poem says that we can learn even from children too. The language of this poem is simple and easy.
