उत्तर: मिर्जापुर आने के बाद लेखक को पता चला की भारतेंदु के मित्र उपाध्याय बद्रीनाथ चौधरी ‘ प्रेमघन’ यहां रहते है। वह बालकों की मंडली जोड़कर डेढ़ मील का सफर तय कर एक मकान के सामने पहुंचे। वहाँ नीचे का बरामदा खाली था तथा ऊपर का बरामदा सघन लताओं से भरा हुआ था। खम्भों के बीच खाली जगह थी। कुछ देर बाद वहां एक मूर्ति दिखाई पड़ी। दोनों कन्धों पर बाल गिरे हुए थे। एक हाथ खम्भे पर रखा हुआ था। देखते देखते वह एक दम से ओझल हो गई। इस प्रकार लेखक ने पहली झलक देखी।

4.लेखक का हिंदी साहित्य के प्रति झुकाव किस प्रकार बढ़ता गया?

उत्तर: लेखक के पिताजी का हिंदी साहित्य के प्रशंसक होने के कारण तथा बचपन से ही हिंदी अनुवाद, रामचरितमानस, रामचंद्रिका तथा नाटकों का वाचन सुनने के कारण हिंदी की तरफ झुकाव हो गया था। उनके पिताजी ने उनको हिंदी साहित्य से पहले ही अवगत करा दिया था। कॉलेज में भी वे हिंदी की पुस्तकें पढ़ते थे। उन्होंने 16 वर्ष की आयु में ही हिंदी प्रेमियों की मंडली में जाना प्रारंभ कर दिया था। इस प्रकार हिंदी साहित्य के प्रति लेखक का झुकाव बढ़ता गया।

5.‘नि:संदेह’ शब्द को लेकर लेखक ने किस प्रसंग का जिक्र किया है?

उत्तर: लेखक ने जब हिंदी साहित्य की मंडली में जाना शुरू कर दिया था तो वह उसके बारे में बताते हैं कि लेखक खुद को तब तक एक लेखक मानने लग गया था। वहां पर नए पुराने लेखकों की चर्चा होती थी। उन लोगों की बातचीत प्राय: पढ़ने लिखने की भाषा में होती थी। जिसमें ‘नि:संदेह’ इत्यादि शब्द शामिल थे। जहाँ पर हम लोग रहते थे वहां वकीलों, कचहरी के अफसरों की बस्ती थी। ऐसे लोगों के उर्दू कानों की बोली कुछ अलग लगती थी। इसी से उन्होंने हमारा नाम नि:संदेह रख कर छोड़ दिया था। लेखक नि:संदेह शब्द को लेकर इसी प्रसंग का जिक्र करता है।

6.पाठ में कुछ रोचक घटनाओं का उल्लेख है। ऐसी तीन घटनाएँ चुनकर अपने शब्दों में लिखिए।

उत्तर: पाठ में अनेक रोचक घटनाओं के उल्लेख आए हुए है। जिनमें से किन्ही तीन का वर्णन इस प्रकार है:

• एक बार कवि वामनचिरयागिरी ने चौधरी जी पर कविता लिखने की सोची उनकी कविता पूरी हो गई थी बस अंतिम पद्य रह गया था। उनको खंभे के साथ खड़े देखकर वो भी पूरा हो गया। उसका अंतिम पद था– खंभा टेकी खड़ी जैसे नारी मुगलानें की।

• एक दिन कई लोग बैठे बातें कर रहे थे कि पंडित जी आ गए और चौधरी जी ने उनके हाल के बारे में पूछा तो उन्होंने कहा की एकादशी का व्रत है इसलिए पानी खाकर आए हैं। सभी लोगों के बीच अब यह प्रश्न था की पानी ही पीया है या फर कुछ फल भी खाया है।

• एक दिन चौधरी जी पड़ोसी के यहां पहुंचे और प्रश्न हुआ की घनचक्कर के क्या मायने हैं। पड़ोसी ने कहा ‘वाह! यह क्या मुश्किल बात है। एक दिन रात सोने से पहले कलम और कागज हाथ में लेकर पूरे दिन में किए गए काम को लिख लीजिए और पढ़ जाइए’।

• इस प्रकार पाठ में ऐसे रोचक तथ्यों का उल्लेख हुआ है। जिनमें से तीन का वर्णन यहां किया गया है।

7.इस पुरातत्व की दृष्टि में प्रेम और कोतूहल का अद्भुत मिश्रण रहता था। यह कथन किसके संबंध में कहा गया और क्यों? स्पष्ट कीजिए।

उत्तर: लेखक ने यह कथन चौधरी साहब के लिए कहा है। ऐसा इसलिए कहा है क्योंकि मंडली में वह सबसे ज्यादा उमर के इंसान थे। सभी उन्हे एक पुरानी चीज समझा करते थे। उनके यहाँ त्योहारों में अनेक उत्सव होते थे। इसलिए लेखक ने चौधरी जी के लिए यह कथन कहा है।

उत्तर: लेखक ने संस्मरण में चौधरी जी के व्यक्तित्व के विभिन्न पहलुओं को उजागर किया है जैसे–

चौधरी साहब का व्यक्तित्व बहुत ही आकर्षित करने वाला था। उनके हंसमुख चेहरे के हाव भाव देखकर सभी प्रसन्न हो जाते थे। चौधरी जी हिंदी प्रेमी थे। वे प्रेमघन उपनाम से अपनी रचनाएं लिखते थे। वे तहजीब और रियासती वाले इंसान थे। उनके यह त्योंहारों पर अनेक उत्सव होते थे। इस प्रकार लेखक ने चौधरी जी की अनेक पहलुओं की उजागर किया है।

उत्तर: लेखक बताता है की उसके पिता ने उसे एक बार किसी बारात में भेज दिया था। वह घूमता-घूमता हुआ चौखंभा की ओर जा निकला। वही से एक घर में से केदार जी पाठक निकलते दिखाई पड़े। वह मुझे पुस्तकालय में रोजाना देखा करते थे। इसलिए वहीं खड़े हो गये। बातों ही बातों में पता चला कि जिस घर से वह निकले थे वह भारतेंदु जी का घर था। मैं बड़ी चाह और कोतूहल की दृष्टि से और जिस भाव से उस घर को देख रहा था, मेरी यह भावना देखकर पाठक जी बड़े प्रसन्न हुए और काफी देर तक मुझसे बातें करते रहे। जिससे वे एक दूसरे को अच्छे से जान और पहचान सके। इसलिए लेखक ने कहा की भारतेंदु जी के मकान के नीचे का यह दृश्य हृदय परिचय बहुत शीघ्र ही गहरी मैत्री में परिणत हो गया।

1.हिंदी – उर्दू के विषय में लेखक के विचारों को देखिए। आप इन दोनों को एक ही भाषा की दो शैलियां मानते है या अलग अलग भाषाएं?

उत्तर: लेखक के विचारों में भी दोनो अलग- अलग भाषा है। उर्दू का आगमन भारत में मुगलों के साथ हुआ था। उसके बाद ही यह प्रचलन में आई। प्रचलन में आने के बाद ही इसमें लेखन की शुरुआत हुई। भारतेंदु ने उर्दू में रचना की लेकिन वे इसके साथ साथ हिंदी भाषा का भी प्रयोग करते थे। हिंदी भाषा का उद्भव भारत में ही हुआ है। दोनों में अंतर करना कठिन है क्योंकि यह हिंदी के साथ- साथ रच बस गई है। लेकिन हिंदी और उर्दू दो अलग- अलग भाषाएं है।

• चौधरी जी के व्यक्तित्व को बताने के लिए पाठ में कुछ मज़ेदार वाक्यों का प्रयोग किया गया है जिनका संदर्भ इस प्रकार है।     

• पुरात्व की दृष्टि में प्रेम और कोतूहल का एक अद्भुत मिश्रण रहता है। यह पंक्ति चौधरी जी के व्यक्तित्व को दर्शाती है की वह उनकी मंडली में सबसे ज्यादा उम्र के है लेकिन फिर भी उनमें स्नेह है। जोकि उनकी उम्र और स्नेह का अच्छा मिश्रण है।
