FAQs on NCERT Solutions For Class 8 Maths Chapter 1 Rational Numbers in Hindi - 2025-26

1. Where can I find the correct, step-by-step NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 1, Exercise 1.1?

You can find detailed, step-by-step solutions for all questions in Exercise 1.1 right here on this page. Our solutions are prepared by subject matter experts and strictly follow the CBSE 2025-26 syllabus. Each answer demonstrates the use of properties like commutativity and associativity to simplify expressions, which is a key concept in this exercise.

2. What is the NCERT-prescribed method for solving questions in Exercise 1.2 of Chapter 1, 'Rational Numbers'?

The primary method for solving questions in Exercise 1.2 involves two main skills:

  • Representing rational numbers on the number line: This involves dividing the segment between two integers into the required number of equal parts based on the denominator.
  • Finding rational numbers between two given numbers: The correct method is to first make the denominators of the two rational numbers equal by finding a common multiple. Then, you can easily identify the integers (and thus, the rational numbers) that lie between the two new numerators.
Our solutions provide a clear, step-by-step breakdown for every problem.

3. Why is it important to understand the properties of rational numbers (like commutativity and distributivity) to solve the problems in this chapter?

Understanding these properties is crucial because they are not just theoretical rules; they are problem-solving tools. Using the distributive property, for example, allows you to simplify complex expressions by factoring out common terms. Similarly, the commutative and associative properties let you rearrange and regroup numbers in a way that makes calculations much easier and faster, which is the exact method expected in NCERT solutions.

4. How do you correctly identify the additive and multiplicative inverses for a rational number like -3/8?

This is a fundamental concept where students often get confused. The correct method is:

  • The additive inverse is the number you add to get zero. For -3/8, the additive inverse is +3/8, because (-3/8) + (3/8) = 0. You simply change the sign.
  • The multiplicative inverse (or reciprocal) is the number you multiply by to get one. For -3/8, the multiplicative inverse is -8/3, because (-3/8) * (-8/3) = 1. You flip the numerator and the denominator.
Our solutions clearly show how these inverses are used to solve equations.

5. What is the step-by-step process to represent a rational number like -5/6 on the number line?

To represent -5/6 on the number line as per the NCERT method, follow these steps:

  1. Draw a number line and mark the integers, especially 0 and -1, since -5/6 lies between them.
  2. Look at the denominator, which is 6. Divide the segment between 0 and -1 into six equal parts.
  3. The first mark to the left of 0 will be -1/6, the second -2/6, and so on.
  4. Count five parts to the left of 0. This fifth mark represents the rational number -5/6.

6. Why are 0 and 1 considered special in the context of rational numbers?

Zero and one hold unique roles as identities:

  • Zero (0) is the additive identity: Adding zero to any rational number does not change its value (e.g., a/b + 0 = a/b). This property is essential for defining the additive inverse.
  • One (1) is the multiplicative identity: Multiplying any rational number by one does not change its value (e.g., a/b × 1 = a/b). This property is the basis for defining the multiplicative inverse or reciprocal.
Understanding these roles is key to grasping the structure of the number system as explained in Chapter 1.

7. How do these NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths help in preparing for school examinations?

These solutions are designed to maximise your exam performance by:

  • Providing clear, logical steps for every question, which helps in understanding the 'how' and 'why' behind each answer.
  • Adhering strictly to the CBSE 2025-26 curriculum and marking scheme, ensuring your methods align with what examiners expect.
  • Highlighting the use of important properties and formulas, which strengthens your fundamental concepts for future chapters and classes.
