A T20 international is played between two of the International players of ICC (International Cricket Council). 20 overs are given to each team. The matches are the highest T20 standards. The game is played keeping in the record the rules of T20 cricket. 

Cricket was originally played in England. Until the 18th century, it did not rise to prominence. A set of rules were drawn and cricket sport achieved a level of standardization by the late 19th century. 

Talking about the history of the sport, the first T20 International was played on 17th Feb 2005 which involved Australia and New Zealand.

Yuvraj Singh, the player of India holds the highest record. He holds his record for the fastest 50 in T20I cricket. He also has the distinction of registering in an international match. 

Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes in an over. He was playing against England in a group match at the inaugural ICC T20 world cup in the year 2007. In 16 balls, he scored 58 runs. 

This helped India set a good target of 219 for England in 20 overs. Later England lost the match by 19 runs. 

The fastest 50 in T20 International was followed 9 years later. This time Sri Lanka was touring New Zealand in 2015-2016. New Zealand chased 143 runs in just 10 days. Yuvraj Singh holds the fastest T20 fifty in International cricket.

The Domestic Records

Indian T20 league saw the fastest half-century in T20 International in just a span of 4 days.

According to the records, Prithvi Shaw took 18 balls to make his fastest 50 against Kolkata. Keiron Pollard took 17 balls to make his half-century against China.

Besides their tremendous performance, neither Pollard nor Shaw could make it to the top 50 in the tournament history. K.L. Rahul holds the record of fastest 50 in T20.

Interesting Facts About Fastest Century in T20 International, ODI, and Test Matches.

When the T20 format first began, there were many for and many were against the decision of T20. Below find some interesting nuggets of the information.

1. Developed by the English people - T20 was introduced by England and Wales cricket club. The first-ever match was played between Australia and New Zealand.

2. Speed up in bowling, or lose some runs - In the T20 format, if a team fails to bowl 20 overs in 75 minutes. A total of 6 runs are deducted from their score.

3. Duck records - Shahid Afridi managed to get a duck score. He got 5 ducks in his T20 career.

4. Highest Individual score - Aaron Finch is one of the highest scorers of T20 cricket matches. He had an outstanding knock of 156 runs in 63 balls. The match was against England in 2013.

5. Best team score - During the inaugural season of T20, Sri Lanka scored 260/6 against Kenya. These are the highest records to date. Followed by Australia. It has the second-best place with 248/6 on board.

6. The lowest team score - 39 runs were the total score of Ireland in the 2014 World Cup

7. Fastest century - The fastest century is scored by David Miller and Rohit Sharma. They both scored the fastest T20 century in 35 balls in 2017.

8. The fastest century in ODI is scored by AB De Villiers in 31 balls. The match was against the West Indies in 2015.

9. The fastest century in Test cricket was scored by Brendon of New Zealand. He achieved 54 balls against Australia in 2016.

10. AB De Villiers holds the record of the fastest half-century in T20 international, fastest hundred, and fastest 150 in ODI’s matches. He scored fifty in 16 balls, a hundred in 31 balls, and 150 runs in 64 balls All in the same match.

Match Format and Rules

The International T20 is a form of limited overs. It involves two teams, each having single innings. Each team bats for a maximum of 20 overs or 120 balls in total. The batting team members do not arrive from their respective dressing rooms. They come and go from a bench which is clearly visible in the playing arena. 

The general rules to perform are as follows:

1. Each bowler bowls a maximum of one-fifth of the total overs per innings. Talking about a full match, it covers four overs.

2. If a bowler delivers a no-ball by overstepping the crease. It costs them one or two runs. Their next delivery is designated a free hit. 

There are several fielding restrictions as well. They are mentioned below:

1. More than 5 fielders cannot be on the leg side at any time.

2. At the time of the first 6 overs, the maximum of two fielders can be outside the circle.

3. Five fielders are outside the circle. The arrangement is made after 6 overs in a match.

T20 International

Men’s and women’s T20 International have been played from 2004 and 2005. To date, a total of 76 nations have played the format. It includes test-playing nations as well.

Men’s T20 International debut was dated on 17th February 2005 and Women’s International debut was dated on 2nd September 2005.
