The Noun

A noun is a term that typically serves as the name of a particular object or group of objects, such as living things, locations, events, traits, states of existence, or concepts. Every noun has two categories: common and proper. In addition, unlike common nouns, most proper nouns do not include the word "the" in front of them in a phrase. With a proper noun, the word has already been made specific, thus there is no need to point with "the," which is a pointing word.

Cat, tower, England, raspberry, etc. are some examples of nouns.

Types of Nouns.

Proper Noun

Proper nouns are nouns that designate a particular, frequently unique, noun. Regardless of where they appear in a phrase, proper nouns are always capitalized. This makes it easier for you to distinguish between them. Proper nouns refer to particular things, whereas common nouns refer to generic things. Example :

Place:  New York City, Los Angeles, Nile.

Things: Eraser, Book, Pencil.

Person: Plumber, Doctor, Boy.

Nouns are words that designate a particular person, animal, place, thing, or idea. All nouns can also be divided into proper and common nouns. Common nouns are words that are used to refer to common objects rather than particular ones. Enter the living room. chair, couch, TV, window, artwork, pillow, candle—are labelled with common nouns.

Even though you're unaware of it, you utilize common nouns often and everywhere. There is always at least one common noun to be found. All of these locations—the street, the closet, the restroom are things, making them common nouns.

Example:

People: girl, man, woman, men

Place: City, State.

Things: laptop, computer, MacBook.

Collective noun

The term "collective noun" refers to a singular entity that consists of more than one person, animal, place, item, or idea. Nouns are words used to name things, places, animals, and people. Collective nouns belong to a distinct class by themselves.

Examples: 

1. On a field trip, our class visited the natural history museum.

2. A huge dust cloud was created as the bison herd raced over the prairie.

3. The team was kind enough to pose for a photograph.

Abstract Nouns

Abstract Noun

An abstract noun indicates something that cannot be heard, touched, observed, tasted, or odored yet may or may not be physically tangible. While the abstract term itself cannot be felt or seen, the things that affect them may. Loyalty, peace, love, hate, honesty, fury, and other abstract terms are frequently used.

Examples:

1. She is afraid of darkness.

2. She is honest.

3. We should maintain peace.

4. She is a compassionate person.

Material Noun

A noun that may be described as "Materials" is called a "Material noun." The names of the components or substances utilized to create goods are nouns. As an illustration, consider gold, iron, silver, and so forth. A material noun is a name given to the substance, material, or items made from an alloy. It refers to the material as a whole rather than to specific product components.

A material noun is not measurable or countable, which suggests that even though it is a liquid, semi-liquid, or solid, it cannot be tallied. Since they refer to objects rather than people or places, material nouns are frequently used.

Examples: 

1. The door is made up of glass.

2. My parents gifted me a gold ring.

3. The material used in these door handles is brass.
