The Hindi Course B Class 10 syllabus is divided into four sections: apathit bodh (14 marks), vyavaharik vyakaran (16 marks), pathyapustak and purak pathyapustak (28 marks) and rachnatmak lekhan (22 marks). These add up to the 80-mark board paper, with a further 20 marks for internal assessment.

Because grammar and writing together carry 38 of the 80 marks in Course B, this paper rewards format and rule-based preparation more than heavy reading. Vyavaharik Vyakaran (व्यावहारिक व्याकरण) in the CBSE Class 10 Hindi Course B Syllabus

The grammar section carries 16 marks and is the most predictable part of the paper. Twenty questions are set in total, out of which students answer only 16, so the internal choice works strongly in your favour. The four prescribed topics are:

Grammar Topic

Marks

Question Pattern

पदबंध

4

4 out of 5 questions

रचना के आधार पर वाक्य रूपांतरण

4

4 out of 5 questions

समास

4

4 out of 5 questions

मुहावरे

4 out of 5 questions

Note that the grammar topics in Course B are different from Course A. Course B tests padbandh, vakya rupantaran, samas and muhavare, while Course A tests vakya bhed, vaachya, pad parichay and alankar. Studying the wrong set is a common mistake, so confirm your subject code before revising.

Apathit Bodh (अपठित बोध) Section in the Hindi Syllabus Class 10 Course B

This section carries 14 marks and needs no memorisation. Course B sets two unseen prose passages of about 200 words each, carrying 7 marks apiece. There is no poetry extract here, which is another point of difference from Course A.

Each passage has three one-mark objective questions and two two-mark short answer questions. Since every answer lies within the passage itself, attempting one comprehension exercise every alternate day is enough to secure full marks in this section.

How to Prepare for the Hindi Syllabus Class 10 Course B?

  • Confirm your subject code is 085 before you begin, as the grammar topics differ entirely from Course A

  • Cross out the deleted Sparsh chapters in your textbook so no time is wasted on them

  • Start with grammar and writing, since together they account for 38 of the 80 marks

  • Practise samas and padbandh with plenty of examples, as these two alone carry 8 marks

  • Read each Sparsh chapter twice, once for the storyline and once for the lines likely to appear in extract questions

  • Attempt two unseen passages a week to build reading speed for the 14-mark section

  • Solve the CBSE sample paper to understand where the internal choices lie

FAQs on Class 10 Hindi Course B Syllabus 2026-27 (Code 085): Unit-wise Marks and Chapter List

1. What is the difference between Hindi Course A and Hindi Course B in Class 10?

Course A (code 002) is for students taking Hindi as a first language and follows Kshitij and Kritika, with 30 marks for literature and 20 for writing. Course B (code 085) is for Hindi as a second language and follows Sparsh and Sanchayan, with 28 marks for literature and 22 for writing. The grammar topics and the unseen passage pattern also differ completely between the two.

2. What is the marks distribution in the class 10 Hindi Course B syllabus 2026-27?

The board paper carries 80 marks: apathit bodh 14, vyavaharik vyakaran 16, textbook and supplementary textbook 28, and rachnatmak lekhan 22. Internal assessment adds another 20 marks, taking the total to 100.

3. Which grammar topics are prescribed in the hindi syllabus class 10 course B?

Four topics of four marks each are prescribed: padbandh, rachna ke aadhar par vakya rupantaran, samas and muhavare. Twenty questions are set in this section and students answer only 16, so the choice is generous.

4. Which chapters have been removed from the hindi course B class 10 chapter syllabus?

Three chapters have been removed from Sparsh Part 2: Bihari's Dohe, Madhur-Madhur Mere Deepak Jal by Mahadevi Verma, and Girgit. No chapter has been deleted from Sanchayan Part 2, so the entire supplementary book remains in the syllabus.

5. Is Hindi Course B easier than Course A?

Course B is generally considered lighter, since it carries less literature (28 marks against 30) and more format-based writing (22 marks against 20). Its unseen section also uses two prose passages instead of one prose and one poetry extract, which most students find simpler.

6. How many unseen passages come in the hindi course B class 10 syllabus 2026-27?

Two unseen prose passages of roughly 200 words each, worth 7 marks apiece. Each carries three one-mark objective questions and two two-mark short answer questions. There is no unseen poetry in Course B.

Sanchayan Part 2 carries 6 marks through two questions of three marks each. Students attempt two out of three, with each answer written in about 50 to 60 words.

8. What are the word limits for the writing section in the cbse class 10 hindi course B syllabus?

Anuchhed lekhan is about 120 words (5 marks), patra lekhan about 100 words (5 marks), soochna lekhan about 60 words (4 marks), vigyapan lekhan about 40 words (3 marks), and e-mail lekhan about 80 words or laghukatha lekhan about 100 words (5 marks).

9. How is the internal assessment of 20 marks divided?

It is split equally into four parts of five marks each: samayik aakalan (periodic assessment), bahuvidh aakalan (multiple assessment), portfolio, and shravan evam vachan (listening and speaking).

10. Which section should I start with while preparing the hindi course B class 10 syllabus?

Begin with grammar and creative writing, as they together account for 38 of the 80 marks and both are rule or format based. Give samas and padbandh extra practice, since those two alone carry 8 marks.

11. Can I choose Course B if Hindi is my first language?

The course is decided by your school, not by the student. Course B is designed for learners studying Hindi as a second language, so confirm your subject code with your teacher before you begin revising, since preparing the wrong grammar set is a common and costly error.

12. Can I download the class 10 Hindi Course B syllabus 2026-27 PDF for free?

Yes, the complete syllabus with the marks table, detailed board exam weightage, Sparsh and Sanchayan chapter list, deleted chapters and internal assessment breakup is available as a free PDF on this page, with no login required.
