  • The story, ‘Pinocchio’ is about a carpenter and a strange piece of wood.

  • Once there lived an old carpenter who bought a piece of wood which was rather strange.

  • As soon as the carpenter started using his plane on the piece of wood, the piece of wood started talking. It asked the carpenter in a laughing voice to stop as he was getting tickled by the plane. 

  • The carpenter decided that he would make a puppet out of this strange piece of wood. As the wood started taking the shape of a boy puppet, the carpenter named him Pinocchio.

  • No sooner than the carpenter made his eyes, he saw that his eyes started to move. The puppet began to laugh before the carpenter could finish making his mouth.

  • The carpenter demanded Pinocchio to stop laughing. He listened to him for a while but he put his tongue out and his nose grew long as soon as the carpenter turned his back on him.

  • As soon as the carpenter finished making the puppet’s hands, Pinocchio snatched away the carpenter’s wig and put it on his head. This made Pinocchio's nose grow longer. 

  • The carpenter made Pinocchio's legs and taught him how to use them. The carpenter decided to send Pinocchio to school but it was of no use. Pinocchio did not do anything in school apart from looking for fun. He even often ran away from school.

  • When the carpenter enquired why Pinocchio did not go to school, he replied with a lie and his nose grew longer and longer.

  • Pinocchio’s nose grew longer every time he was rude to someone or told a lie. Pinocchio decided that he would not lie anymore.
