Hint: Pollination of the flowers is that the transfer of pollen from the male part of the plant to the female part of the plant. This pollination occurs through the pollinators. Basically, the gametes are non-motile so that they need a pollinator to fertilize. Here, we are going to find the reason when the wind and the water pollination occur. The flowers are not colorful and do not produce nectar to be analyzed.
Complete answer:
Pollination is classified into two types. And there are three types of agents that are included in the pollination. Through these agents, the pollination takes place and they are very much helpful in this process. Firstly, in the wind pollination the pollen grains are non-sticky and they are very light. The stigma is feathery like structures. This traps the airborne pollen grains. This arises in the flowers having a single ovule in each ovary. It lacks the nectar and produces pollen in large quantities. This commonly occurs in the grasses. Even through the insects, the pollen gets transferred. That kind of vector is known as the Anemophilous pollen. And in the water pollination there is only a limited number of genera. This kind occurs very rarely. This is mainly done through the aquatic plants like hydrilla and Vallisneria. Here, the male part which is known as anther is shedding its pollen grains on their water surface. The female part which is known as stigma is done by the passive water current. These two agents are light in weight as the air and water cannot carry the heavy pollen. Insects get attracted towards the nectar and flower but here in the wind and the water it does not occur. So, this is the reason why wind pollinated and water pollinated flowers are not colorful and they cannot produce nectar.
Note: This happens when the pollen grains lose some of the characters in the force of the wind and due to the fluidity of the water. The nectar producing characters here are easily removable. Wind and water are very much low. They are not efficient and they need a greater number of pollen for their dispersal. There is a random chance to drift the pollen from the recipient flower. So, these are the reasons for the uncolorful flower and non-nectared flowers.
