Candidates who have passed Class 12 or an equivalent qualifying examination in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing for the qualifying examination in 2027, are suitable for JEE Main 2027, subject to the applicable conditions under the JEE Mains Eligibility Criteria. The candidates who passed the qualifying examination before 2025 are not eligible under the stated qualifying-year criteria.

The qualifying examination must be recognised as per the applicable JEE Main requirements. Candidates should keep their Class 12 or equivalent examination details and supporting documents ready while completing the JEE Main 2027 application form.

JEE Main 2027 Age Limit

There is no age limit for appearing in JEE Main 2027. However, candidates must meet any age or other admission conditions prescribed by the institute or programme to which they seek admission.

• State Code of Eligibility can be chosen based on the candidate’s permanent Indian address

• Must meet the same subject and percentage requirements as Indian students - usually 75% marks or top 20 percentile in the board exam.

State Code of Eligibility for JEE Main 2027: Quick Reference

• The State Code of Eligibility for JEE Main 2027 is based on the state where a candidate first passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination, not their native place or residence. For example, a candidate who passed Class 12 in Delhi but lives in Noida will have Delhi as their state code. Candidates who take improvement exams in another state must use the state where they first passed Class 12. 

• NIOS and BOSSE students must select the state where their study centre is located. Indian nationals who pass Class 12 in Nepal or Bhutan must use their permanent Indian address listed in their passport. 

• OCI candidates who pass Class 12 in India follow the same rules as Indian nationals. OCI candidates who pass Class 12 abroad can apply for All India quota seats but not Home State quota seats at NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs.

The 75% criteria is an admission requirement, not a general requirement for appearing in JEE Main.

These requirements apply to admission to participating institutes, and should not be confused with the basic eligibility to sit for the JEE Main examination.

For JEE Main 2027, however, the current brochure does not mention the earlier 75% or top-20-percentile conditions. Therefore, the table above represents the previous admission framework, not a confirmed 2027 admission rule. 

Candidates should wait for the applicable admission rules and official clarification before assuming that the previous criteria will or will not apply for the 2027-28 admission cycle.

JEE Main 2027 Eligibility: What Aspirants Should Do Now

Candidates should continue their JEE Main 2027 preparation without assuming that the 75% admission condition has been removed.

Students should:

• Check whether they satisfy the basic JEE Main 2027 eligibility requirements, including the qualifying-examination year.

• Keep their Class 12 academic records and other required documents ready.

• Check the latest official updates from NTA regarding JEE Main 2027.

• Candidates targeting NITs, IIITs and GFTIs should also follow the JoSAA and CSAB admission rules when the relevant admission information is released.

• Do not make admission decisions solely on the assumption that the 75% rule has been discontinued.

• Check the applicable subject requirements for the specific programme and institute they intend to join.

• Continue preparing for JEE Main 2027 rather than waiting for clarification on the admission criteria.

The JEE Main 2027 Session 1 application process is currently open from 24 October to 22 November 2026, and the Session 1 examination is scheduled for 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027, according to the NTA public notice.
