Born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had remained to be an immensely respected and recognized Indian veteran politician. In 1957, he was initially elected as a member of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (BJS) to parliament, a forerunner of the BJP. In May 1996, he was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India but only for 13 days, because of the failure in receiving support from the other parties. In early 1998, Atal Bihari Vajpayee again became the PM in the elections where BJP held a record number of seats but was forced to make a faint union with regional parties. Then, in 1999, the BJP had risen its seats in the parliament and made a powerful hold on the government.
By the end of 2005, Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared his retirement from politics and in late December he was felicitated with the nation’s highest civilian honour and most prestigious Bharat Ratna award.
