Ans:  When the narrator sees remnants of the machine lying on the path, he gets angry and asks the man not to trouble himself so much as he will get tired. He asks the man to put the bicycle down like before.

Ans: The man told the narrator they might try to find what was wrong with the cycle. While talking he dropped the cycle by mistake. Before the narrator stopped him further, he unscrewed something which rolled out over the path dozen or small little balls.

D. Long Answer Questions: (5 Marks) 

1. How did the narrator encourage the man to fix the gearcase?

Ans: The man opened all the gear which hurt the narrator as the man was touching his property. Later, the narrator started praising him. He said watching him is useful for him. He also said his skill fascinates him. The man’s confidence and hopefulness were good for him. These lines encouraged the man to fix the gear again.

2. What did the man do with the chain of the bicycle?

Ans: When the man could not find the gear to screw it up, he stopped looking for him. He started the work with chains. He tightened up and then loosened it twice as it was loosened before.

3. What did the man do after the narrator told him that he was really inspired by him?

Ans: After the narrator told him that he was inspired by him, he got his courage. He again started his work on fixing the gear. He made the cycle stand against the wall and started doing his work. Again, the man leaned the bicycle against the tree. The man then held his cycle between the wheels and dropped some oil on him.

4. “Then he lost his temper and tried bullying the thing. The bicycle, I was glad to see, showed spirit; and the subsequent proceedings degenerated into little else than a rough-and-tumble fight between him and the machine.” Explain what the fight between him and the machine means here?

Ans: The narrator said this to the man when he faced trouble with the bicycle after re-fit. According to the line, the narrator noticed that the man lost his patience and tried bullying things. Sometimes the bicycle was seen on the gravel path and the man was under it. Sometimes, the man was seen on the gravel path and the man upon it. The fight is symbolic of the fact that the bicycle actually was not in much need to be repaired but the man, clueless of how to fix it, made its condition worse. 

5. How does the poetess describe the snake in the poem “Garden Snake”?

Ans: The poetess describes the snake in the eyes of the child. The child saw the snake and ran away. Some say they are dangerous while others are kind. Some snakes are good but cannot eat anything except eating insects. After the narrator feels no fear and sees a snake swinging in the grass.
