Hint: Modulation refers to the process of converting the given data into electromagnetic waves. The modulation is achieved by using a device called modulator. The raw data can be converted into any type of wave such as radio waves or microwaves. These waves are then called carrier signals, and carrier signals have some distinct characteristics such as steady waveform, constant height or amplitude and frequency.

Note: There can be different ways of sending signals over large distances such as frequency modulation, phase modulation and amplitude modulation. Modulation is used for transportation of signals over long distances because low frequency signals cannot be used as they die out after travelling some short distance. The signal which is modulated is sent and at the receiver end is received through the antennae and is demodulated then to retrieve the original signal. Contrary to this sometimes RF amplifiers are also used for this purpose.
