Is There SOF IMO Level 2 for Class 1?

No. SOF IMO Level 2 is conducted only for qualifying students from Classes 3 to 12. Students in Classes 1 and 2 complete their SOF IMO participation at Level 1.

This means students using the SOF IMO syllabus for Class 1 only need to prepare for the Level 1 examination.

How to Prepare for the IMO Maths Olympiad Class 1 Syllabus?

Class 1 preparation should remain simple, concept-focused and engaging. Students do not need to study advanced Mathematics; instead, they should become confident with the topics prescribed in their class-level syllabus.

  • Start with number sense, addition and subtraction before moving to application questions.

  • Practise patterns, odd-one-out and figure-based reasoning regularly.

  • Use real objects to explain money, length, weight, time and comparisons.

  • Practise shapes and solids using familiar objects around the home or classroom.

  • Solve a few Olympiad-style questions after completing each topic.

  • Give special practice to the Achievers Section after the basics are clear.

  • Use sample papers to become comfortable with the 35-question, 60-minute format.

  • Keep practice sessions short and consistent for better concentration at this age.

SOF also recommends class-wise workbooks, Olympiad prep guides, reasoning resources and previous-year papers as preparation resources.

Which Topics Should Class 1 Students Practise First?

A simple preparation order can make the SOF IMO Class 1 syllabus easier to complete:

Number Sense → Addition → Subtraction → Length and Weight → Time → Money → Shapes and Solids → Patterns → Logical Reasoning → Achievers Section

The current SOF 2026-27 Class 1 workbook also organises preparation around Number Sense, Addition, Subtraction, Lengths and Weights, Time, Money, Geometrical Shapes and Logical Reasoning.
