JEE Advanced 2024 Cut Off: Categorywise Cut off Percentile and Ranks

JEE Advanced cut-off 2024 is important for the candidates as these are the minimum marks they need to score to participate in the JEE Advanced counselling process. JEE Advanced 2024 exam is scheduled on May 26, 2024, The official brochure says you need at least 35% marks if you are in the general category, 31.5% in OBC-NCL/EWS, and 17.5% in SC/ST/PwD to pass JEE Advanced 2024. It is important to note that the JEE Advanced cutoff depends on the difficulty level of the Question Paper.  If the difficulty level of the question paper is high, the cut marks are generally set low by authorities, and if the difficulty level is low, the cut-off marks are set high. For top IITs like Bombay and Madras, aim for scores above 150, which translates to ranks below 5000.

JEE Advanced 2023 Cut-off Key Highlights

  • JEE Advanced cut-off is the minimum mark candidates need to score to be eligible for JEE Advanced counselling managed by JoSAA.

  • To be eligible for JEE Advanced counselling, the candidates must score minimum aggregate qualifying marks and minimum qualifying marks in each subject, i.e., Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

  • JoSAA released the JEE Advanced cut-off for different categories, i.e., General, SC/ST, OBC, and Other Categories. Similarly, the seat allotments are based on All India Rank (AIR). The exam conducting authorities release AIR along with the JEE Advanced results.

  • The colleges participating in the counselling process prepare individual cut-off marks for each course in the form of opening and closing ranks.

  • To study Computer Science at an IIT, you usually need a higher score compared to other engineering branches. To secure a seat in CSE at any of the 23 IITs, you should aim for a rank below 11,000.

What Factors Determine JEE Advanced Cut-Off Marks?

The factors determining the JEE Advanced cut-off marks are listed below:

  • The total number of candidates who appeared in the JEE Advanced exam.

  • The difficulty level of JEE Advanced question paper.

  • The total number of seats available at the participating colleges and universities.

  • Previous year's JEE Advanced cut-off trend.

  • Candidates' performance in the exam.

Conclusion

Acing the JEE Advanced is key to getting into an IIT. The JEE Advanced cutoff marks for 2024 are out! This score determines whether you qualify for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The cutoffs are higher this year compared to previous years. For General category (UR) you need to score at least 93.2 percentile and for other categories (EWS, OBC, SC, ST) the cutoffs are lower, but still competitive. While the cutoffs give you a target, focus on maximizing your score. Brush up on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and practice solving previous years' papers.

FAQs on JEE Advanced Cut Off 2024

1. What are the types of JEE Advanced cutoff?

There are two main types of JEE Advanced cutoffs:

Qualifying Percentile: This is the minimum score required in JEE Advanced to be included in the rank list. It varies based on the candidate's category (General, OBC, SC/ST, etc.).

Opening and Closing Ranks: These ranks define the range of ranks for admission into various IITs and branches. These depend on the number of seats available, difficulty level of the exam, and candidate performance.

2. Is it mandatory for candidates to meet the JEE Advanced cutoff 2022 percentile?

Yes, it is mandatory for candidates to secure a qualifying cutoff in JEE Advanced 2022 in all three subjects in addition to the aggregate scores to be eligible for JEE Advanced counselling process managed by JOSSA.

3. Do exam authorities release JEE Advanced cut-off marks for foreign candidates?

The exam authorities do not release JEE Advanced cutoff marks for foreign candidates. Foreign candidates get admission to IIT institutes based on their scores in the JEE Advanced exam. Also, foreign candidates don’t need to clear the JEE Main as they can directly register for JEE Advanced.

4. What are aggregate marks in the JEE Advanced exam?

The aggregate marks in JEE Advanced refer to the total marks scored by a candidate in all three subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) combined. The maximum possible score is 360 (120 in each subject).

5. Are opening and closing ranks similar to the JEE Advanced cutoff?

JEE Advanced cutoff (percentile) determines eligibility for the rank list, while opening and closing ranks indicate the specific ranks required for admission into different IITs and branches.  A higher rank is better, and admissions happen sequentially based on rank and seat availability. So, opening ranks represent the minimum rank required for a particular program in an IIT, while closing ranks represent the last rank filled for that program.
