2. Selection of readymade garments

3. Laundering of Clothes

5. Communication & Extension

1. Terminology related to development; schemes and programmes in India
   • Gender discrimination, women’s empowerment, sex ratio, child labour, human trafficking, child abuse, female infanticide/foeticide, morbidity, mortality, carbon footprint, endangered species, population explosion, human capital, poverty line
   • Developmental schemes: DWCRA, MNREGA, Ayushman Bharat, Ujjwala Yojna, Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojna (brief info, target group)
2. Communication aids
   • Poster, brochure, pamphlets, puppet shows, street play: effective usage for social concerns

PART II: INTERNAL ASSESSMENT

Please note the guidelines for Internal Assessment as given for Class X.
To be assessed internally by the school.

The minimum number of assignments per year:

• Class IX - Five practical assignments
• Class X - Five practical assignments

Suggested Assignments

Foods and Nutrition

• Identification of pulses, cereals, spices.
• Identification of serving/cooking equipment.
• Preparation of nutritious snacks (different cooking methods).
• Demonstration of vegetable/fruit cuts (slice, chop, dice, mince, juliennes, etc.) for salads.
• Simple cooking: boiling, frying, steaming, grilling, baking, stewing.
• Visit food processing unit & report.
• Identify and collect kitchen herbs/spices/condiments for ailments; report.
• List foods eaten in a day, classify into food groups; analyse nutrient content and appearance.
• Food preservation: making chutneys, pickles, jam.
• Demonstration of innovative table layouts, napkin folding, decorations.

Human Development

• Collect 10 play materials & evaluate merits/demerits.
• Lunch break observation: language, friends, games (junior/middle school group).
• Visit day-care centre; observe children’s activities & record.
• Visit special school; record observations (any one child with special needs).

Textiles and Clothing

• Collect fabric samples; compare cost, durability, appearance, suitability.
• Identify fibres—cotton, wool, silk, synthetics—by burning test.
• Plan home interiors through colour and furnishing materials (bedroom, living, dining room).
• Care & laundering of cotton, silk, wool.

Resource Management

• Plan school/home recycling system.
• Prepare compost pits.
• Gardening: plant and care of herbs, medicinal plants.
• Prepare layout of Home Science lab (work centres, storage, equipment placement).
• Clean glass panes, grills, sinks, counter tops, shelves, appliances (five activities).
• Prepare family budget based on parental info.

Communication & Extension

• Design leaflet/pamphlet (consumer rights/responsibilities).
• Collect info about global environmental issues; communicate via posters, charts, collages, cartoons, handouts, letters, street plays, etc.
• Identify low-cost, environmentally-friendly alternatives to scarce resources (fuels).

Final Test

Candidates will be tested in one or more aspects of Home Science by the External Examiner.

Evaluation

• Assignments/project work evaluated by Subject Teacher and an External Examiner (nominated by Head of School, must not teach the class/section).
• Both assess independently (50+50=100 marks)

Marks to be sent to CISCE by Head of school and entered on CAREERS portal.
