What are the Padma Awards

As a citizen of India, you must have heard about different awards such as Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and many more. These awards are a way to honor the people who have served the country and have given outstanding achievements.

The Padma awards are a category of highest honorary civilian awards in India. There are different Padma awards given based on the exceptional service and dedication of the deserved awardees. A thorough process of selection chooses the deserved candidates. Nowadays, the normal citizens of the country can suggest the name of any candidate who has done exceptional work for the country. These are civilian awards; therefore, the Padma awards 2021 do not give any cash or allowances, unlike the national awards.

Be it the Padma Bhushan 2021, Padma Vibhushan 2021, or the Padma Shri award 2021, no awardee gets the cash allowances. They get a certificate signed by the president and a special medallion for their achievements.

In this article, we have mentioned some of the facts related to the Padma awards 2021. In addition, we have presented the list of Padma awardee 2021, including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Shri award list.

Selection Procedure for Padma Awards

The candidates are chosen very carefully by an extensive process to ensure that the highly deserving candidates get the awards.

The people may be from any distinction but must have done excellent work towards the development and achievements of the country. These awards are given only to the persons who have done outstanding service/achievements in any fields such as art, literature, sports, medicine, social work and development, public relations, trading, industrial success, music, education, and many more.

One of the specialties of these awards is that there is no discrimination based on caste, race, gender, or occupation. Any person is eligible for the prize, and no discrimination is made in the selection procedure.

Until 2015, the ministers used to suggest the names of the deserving candidates to select awards among them. However, the government changed the rules after this and allowed ordinary citizens to suggest names with the help of online mode. The government said this because it believed the citizens must choose the deserving candidates for the civilian awards, such as the Padma awards 2021.
