What are the schemes launched by the Modi Government?

Various government initiatives known as schemes or plans (Yojana: important schemes launched by the government) have been developed by the ministries of the Government of India from time to time. These plans might be developed by the central government, state governments, or through a combined partnership between the centre and the states. They are launched with the intention of enhancing people's livelihoods and giving security for a better life. Each plan is designed to help the individual in specific aspects of their life. Some programs attempt to give financial security, while others try to provide socioeconomic measures.

The majority of individual initiatives benefit rural populations, urban poor, low-income families, economically disadvantaged parts, or weaker elements of society. The following is a list of schemes for Individuals in India under Union Government Schemes.

Let us take a look at the list of important schemes launched by the Modi government.

Make in India

Make in India is a government program to encourage firms to produce in India and to incentivise committed investments in manufacturing. The policy strategy was to foster an investment-friendly climate, build modern and efficient infrastructure, and open up new industries to foreign investors. The project sought to "turn India into a global design and manufacturing centre" by focusing on 25 economic areas for job development and skill training.

"Make in India" has three stated goals:

  • to boost the manufacturing sector's annual growth rate to 12-14 percent;

  • to generate 100 million new manufacturing jobs in the economy by 2022;

  • to enhance the manufacturing sector's  GDP contribution to 25 percent by 2022 (later revised to 2025).

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), also known as Swachh Bharat Abhiyan or Clean India Mission, is a national program launched by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. It is a reformed version of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan, which was established in 2009 but failed to meet its objectives. The first phase of the Swachh Bharat program ran till October 2019. Phase 2 will be placed between 2020–21 and 2024–25.

The project, launched by the Government of India, aims to achieve an "open-defecation-free" (ODF) India by 2 October 2019, the 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth. The first phase of the mission's aims also included the abolition of manual scavenging, raising knowledge and influencing behaviour about sanitation measures, and increasing capacity at the local level.

The mission's second phase seeks to maintain the absence of open defecation and to enhance solid and liquid waste management. The mission's goal is to go closer to objective 6.2 of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals Number 6, which were set in 2015.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY, transl. Prime Minister's People's Wealth Scheme) is a Government of India financial inclusion program open to Indian citizens (minors aged 10 and older can also open an account with a guardian to manage it) to increase affordable access to financial services such as credit, insurance, bank accounts, remittances, and pensions.

On August 28, 2014, India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, started the Financial Inclusion Campaign. On August 15, 2014, he revealed this plan in his first Independence Day address. On the first day of operation, 15 million bank accounts were established under this initiative, which was run by the Ministry of Finance's Department of Financial Services.

This is one of the important schemes by the Modi government. The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY),  is a yield insurance program for farmers, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on February 18, 2016. It was created in accordance with the One Nation–One Scheme idea by combining the best elements of the previous two schemes, National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) and Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (MNAIS), and addressing their inherent disadvantages. It seeks to decrease farmers' premium burdens while also ensuring timely payout of crop insurance claims for the full covered value.

Atal Pension Yojana

The Atal Pension Yojana (APY, or Atal's Pension Scheme), originally known as the Swavalamban Yojana (SY, or Self-Support Scheme), is an Indian government-backed pension scheme largely aimed at the unorganized sector. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley addressed it in his Budget speech for 2015. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled it on May 9, 2015, in Kolkata.

The Government of India donated $1,000 (US$14) each year to each NPS account created in 2010–11 and for the next three years, 2011–12, 2012–13, and 2013–14, under the system.

The benefit was only accessible to NPS members who made a minimum payment of $1,000 (US$14) and a maximum contribution of 12,000 (US$170) each year. The plan was unveiled in the Finance Minister's 2010–11 Budget. Grants from the Government of India helped to support it.
