Daughters day is celebrated, hoping that the myth of daughters being a cause worth pitying or that daughters are a burden in society will get dispelled. The celebration is to emphasize that daughters should receive the equal love and attention a son gets. When is Daughters Day Celebrated?

The celebration of National daughters day in India is on the last Sunday of September each year. For this year, i.e., 2021, happy daughters day date is 26th of September 2021. Also, the celebration of International Daughters Day is on the 26th of September each year. But different countries celebrate the world's daughters day on other dates.

Origin of Daughters Day

Daughters' day originated in India. People observe this day to eliminate those traditions and cultures where daughters are given the name of being a burden. In India, daughters are not given the same treatment as sons. Even though laws exist against the system of dowry, it's still practiced in India. Female infanticide and foeticide continue to be rampant issues. The women who give birth to daughters are tortured physically and mentally. They started this holiday with the hope of raising awareness about the state of daughters in India.  And also to promote the fact that daughters are not a burden in society and are inferior to sons.

Daughter's day was made a nationally acknowledged holiday by the conjoined attempts of the governments of some countries. They decided to make it a nationally recognized holiday so that society's unjust and unfair patriarchal views regarding the status of daughters are diminished.

Importance of Daughters Day

The aim of celebrating daughters day is to encourage people to love and respect their daughters and to show their daughters that they are proud of them. This festival is getting successful each year, showing how rapidly people are changing their patriarchal minds.

People are happily celebrating the birth of a girl child, and they no longer think that a daughter is a burden in society.

Some underdeveloped, as well as developing countries, still practice the tradition of seeing daughters as a burden. Still, otherwise, this day is viewed as a traditional celebration in the rest of the world. In India, this day is celebrated to eliminate the stigma that comes with a daughter and highlight that daughters are equally important as sons.
