An angry Indra sent torrential rains for seven days. To save the villagers, Krishna lifted the entire mountain with his little finger and protected people, animals, cows under it. Indra, defeated, accepted his error.
Ever since, devotees build a symbolic hill (called Govardhan Parvat) from cow dung or other material and offer 56 varieties of food (Chappan Bhog / Chhappan Bhog) to Krishna.

1. Wake Up Early & Take a Clean Bath
Begin your day fresh, in a calm, peaceful mind.
2. Clean the Puja Area
Choose a corner (often east or northeast). Clean it, spread a cloth, place idols or pictures of Krishna / Radha if available.
3. Make the Govardhan Hill
Use cow dung (gobar), clay, or mud to shape a small hillock. Some also make figures of cows, calves around it.
Decorate with flowers, leaves, colored powders, garlands.
3. Light Dhupa & Diyas
Offer incense (dhupa) and oil lamps (diyas) around the Govardhan structure.
4. Offer Naivedya / Bhog
Prepare Chappan Bhog (56 types of vegetarian dishes, sweets, fruits, grains) and offer them to form a mountain of food (Annakut).

5. Chant Mantras & Sing Bhajans / Kirtans
