Dear Som

How are you doing? I hope you are doing better now. I was quite taken aback when I got to know you had been diagnosed with malaria. You have always been healthy, after all.
I am writing this letter to keep you up to date with what is happening in the school. Yesterday, our school organized an award ceremony to award the toppers. I know that since you are one, you would love to know all the details.
The ceremony began with a speech by the Principal, which was then followed by a skit - discussion between the Head Boy and the Head Girl regarding the importance of academics and the balance of academics and co-curricular / sports.
After this enlightening skit which motivated me to work harder to study, the awards were given by the Principal. Your sister, Rina, received the reward in your name. You got a trophy! There were three toppers for our batch. Everyone was quite satisfied with the ceremony. If you were here, you would have been, too.

The Vice - Head Girl then delivered the vote of thanks and the assembly was adjourned.
Do keep me updated about your health, Som. Everyone at school misses you.

Yours,
Sachin

Note: The student should remember that there are essentially two types of letters - formal and informal. The formal letters are addressed to persons or organizations in authority. Informal letters are addressed to close ones, family, friends and such. Thus, the student should recognize whether the given letter should be formal or informal and write accordingly.
