- Grant a nation-wide plan for disaster management.
- To sanction the plans made by the government departments and ministries in harmony with the National plan.
- NDMA will make strategies that have to be followed by the authorities of the State to have a state plan.
- NDMA makes strategies for different government departments and ministries for incorporating and combining the disaster management plans to prevent disasters and modify the effects in the progress of developmental plans.
- NDMA will synchronize the execution and application of the policy and strategies to manage the disaster.
- NDMA will commend for supplying funds on behalf of disaster mitigation.
- NDMA will lend its hand in supporting other countries that are affected by severe disasters after it is decided by the Central government.
- NDMA will take measures that are meant for disaster prevention, mitigation, readiness, and ability to handle harsh disaster conditions.
- NDMA will make policies and strategies for the operation of the National Institute of Disaster Management.

Note: The Disaster Management Act was implemented by the government of India in 2005 to respond to disasters and crisis management after disasters. National disaster management authority comes under the home ministry committee. Prime minister is the head for NDMA and the individual state chief minister is the head for the state disaster management authority.
