Hint: n order to solve this question, we should know that a waves is the disturbance in a medium which carries energy and travels from one point to another in a medium, here we will discuss about the nature of light wave and then figure out the type of light wave.
Complete answer:
Before discussing light waves, we should know that, mainly there are two kinds of waves, one is mechanical waves which require a mechanical medium for their propagation and other one is non mechanical waves which don’t require any medium for their propagation.
Light waves which also travels in free space, son don’t require any medium for their propagation came under non-mechanical waves and apart from that, Light wave contains alternation electric and magnetic field components which are perpendicular to each other as well as perpendicular to the direction of propagation, so Light wave are the Electromagnetic waves.
Due to the direction of electric field, magnetic field components and direction of propagation of light waves, it is transverse in nature, so light waves are also transverse waves in nature.
Hence, Light wave is an Electromagnetic wave which is non-mechanical as well as transverse in nature.
Note:
It should be remembered that, Light can travel in any medium and the maximum speed of light is in vacuum which is the speed limit of universe having speed of light as and there are many electromagnetic waves such as radio waves, microwaves, infra-red waves and all these electromagnetic waves travel with speed of light in vacuum.
