Hint : In order to solve this question, we are going to first know the alignment of the planet, the geographic North and South Poles, and also the magnetic North and the South Poles. And the reason for this kind of alignment of the poles.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
The magnetic north pole of the earth, conventionally as the name suggests should be towards the geographic North Pole only. But due to the rotation of the earth and its alignment with the axis, it lies towards the geographic South Pole.
Now as we know that there are two poles of the earth, i.e., the North Pole and the South Pole. They are the places on the Earth’s surface that Earth’s imaginary spin axis passes through. Our planet also has two magnetic poles, the North Magnetic Pole and the South Magnetic Pole. The magnetic poles are near but not quite in the same places as, the geographic poles. The needle in a compass points towards a magnetic pole. Earth’s North magnetic pole is actually the South Pole of the Earth’s geographic poles and vice versa.
Note :
One more reason for this type of arrangement of the poles is because the opposite poles attract, this makes the magnetic North Pole being attracted to the geographic South Pole and vice versa. The position of the magnetic poles is also defined two ways, globally and locally.
