Hint: Recall the basic information about the term energy. First give the definition of the term energy and then give names of five different types of the energy. In addition to this, give brief information about these five different forms of energy which will help to understand these types of energy clearly.
Complete answer:
The energy of an object is a terms or quantitative property which when supplied to the object, the object becomes able to perform some work. There are various different forms of energy generally categorized in two types of energy which are kinetic energy and potential energy. The names of the five different forms of energy are as follows:
1. Thermal or heat energy
2. Chemical energy
3. Nuclear energy
4. Electrical energy
5. Sound energy
The thermal energy of a substance is due to the motion of the atoms and molecules inside the substance. When the atoms in a substance possess more kinetic energy, they start vibrating about their mean position and transfer this energy to the adjacent atom resulting in heating of the substance. Hence, thermal energy is also called heat energy.
The chemical energy is the energy which holds a molecule or atoms together in its position. The chemical energy is stored in the bonds of the atoms in the molecule. The nuclear energy of an atom is the energy released when the nucleus of an atom undergoes fission or fusion process. This is the energy stored in the nucleus of an atom.
The electrical energy is the form of energy due to the motion of electrons when current flows through a current carrying conductor. The sound energy is the energy possessed by the sound wave travelling from a medium from one place to another place. This energy is transferred by the air particles present in the medium which carries sound waves from one place to the other.
Note: The students should keep in mind that we have asked to name different forms of energy. So, we should avoid the names like kinetic energy and potential energy as all the forms of energy are broadly classified into these two forms of energy. So, one can name the forms of energy which comes under these two types.
