Now, the rate at which a body changes its position is known as the speed of the body. It is known as velocity when the change in motion is considered only in a particular direction. This velocity in itself can change in time. But when a body is changing position at the same rate in time it is said to be moving at a constant velocity. This means that a body moving at constant velocity, would move from 0 to 2 metres in the same time it will move from 2 to 4 metres.
On the other hand, if it takes say 2 seconds to move from 0 – 2 metres but takes only one second to move from 2 – 4 metres, then the body must have a changing velocity. When the body is changing velocity, it is said to possess an acceleration.
