Following are the agricultural characteristics in Central Highlands of India
- Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people residing in the Peninsular Plateau region. The presence of alluvial and black soil in this region makes it suitable for agricultural purposes.
- All regions have their economy predominantly dependent on farming and agriculture.
- Important cash crops grown in the Central Highlands are cotton and soybeans.
- Wheat, rice, jowar, maize, gram, bajra. Urad and moong are other major crops grown in this region.
- The economy of the entire area is predominantly based on horticulture. However, factors like poor fertility of the land, low efficiency, and absence of irrigation facilities and non-utilization of present-day techniques have impeded the advancement of agriculture in the area.

Note: The part of the Central Highlands which reaches out toward the east of Malwa Plateau is known as Bundelkhand and is trailed by Baghelkhand and the notable Chota Nagpur Plateau.
