NMTC Exam Pattern

Group Stage 1: Objective Stage 1: Subjective Stage 2: Final Negative Marking
Primary 15 MCQ 10 Short-answer Subjective Full Solution -0.5 MCQ, -0.25 Numerical (Stage 1 only)
Sub-Junior, Junior, Inter 15–20 MCQ 10–15 Short-answer Subjective Full Solution -0.5 MCQ, -0.25 Numerical (Stage 1 only)

NMTC Stage 1: Preliminary (Online)

The NMTC preliminary round is an online assessment with both MCQs and numerical answers, designed to test calculation skills and logical approaches. Approx. 10% of top scorers in each group qualify for Stage 2.

NMTC Stage 2: Final (Offline)

The final round features Olympiad-standard subjective problems. All answers require detailed solutions and proof-style explanations. Stage 2 is similar in spirit to INMO and SOF IMO, though each contest’s syllabus and selection pathway is distinct.

NMTC Registration Process

  1. Go to the official AMTI portal: https://amtionline.com/
  2. Choose "National Mathematics Talent Contests" under Events & Exams.
  3. Complete the online registration form with accurate school, group, and class details.
  4. Upload required supporting documents if prompted (ID proof, school/college letter).
  5. Pay the NMTC registration fee (Rs. 150/- per candidate).
  6. Submit and save your confirmation for further reference.

NMTC Preparation Tips

  • Practice NMTC previous year papers and question types specific to your group.
  • Review concepts from school maths but emphasize deeper problem-solving and logical thinking.
  • Join SOF IMO and IOQM preparation for mixed Olympiad exposure.
  • Take NMTC-focused online courses or mock tests by Vedantu.
  • Pay close attention to accuracy in calculations to avoid negative marking in Stage 1.

NMTC Details Mentioned in the Admit Card

  • Candidate name and registration number
  • Exam level/group (Gauss, Kaprekar, etc.) and class
  • Date, time, and mode (online/offline) of Stage 1/2
  • Login or center address details
  • Exam instructions and reporting guidelines

NMTC Results & Cut-Off Announcement

NMTC results for the preliminary round are declared on the official AMTI website about a week after the exam. The final merit list and awards list (including top rankers, cash prizes, and participation certificates) is published by September end. Only the top 10% in Stage 1 qualify for the subjectively evaluated Stage 2 final. NMTC has no official public “cut-off” scores—qualification is based on group performance and percentile ranking.

What to Do After the NMTC Exam

  • Check results and qualification status on the AMTI NMTC portal.
  • If qualified, prepare for Stage 2 with additional mock tests and focus on detailed solution writing.
  • Download merit/participation certificates and review solutions posted after the results.
  • Plan your next Olympiad journey by exploring INMO, RMO, and SOF IMO with Vedantu's expert support.
