Maths Worksheet for Kids| One Step Equations - Download Free PDF with Solutions

Basic algebra starts with representing a variable in an equation with a letter. Students learn to explain a variable and perform the mathematical operations on an equation to get its value. This is where the One Step Equations Worksheet can be used perfectly to develop your conceptual foundation.

This worksheet contains the questions that explain the methods of Solving One Step Equations Worksheet. Hence, solving these questions will enable you to understand what a variable stands for and how its value can be determined easily.

What is the One Step Equation?

As the name suggests, a one-step equation is an algebraic expression that contains one variable and numbers. It takes only one mathematical operation to solve and find the value of the variable included.

In this equation, only the variable represented with an English letter is unknown. Students will have to use the one-step methods taught to find the value of this variable.

An algebraic equation that only requires one step to solve is known as a one-step equation. Once you've figured it out, you'll know the variable's value, which makes the equation true. To obtain the variable by itself when solving one-step equations, we do the inverse (opposite) of the operation being applied to the variable.

One-step equations can be solved in four different ways: by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. In an equation, both sides will remain equal if we add the same amount to either side. One-step equations only contain one operation and require one inverse operation to be solved. Two-step equations have two operations and require two inverse operations to be solved.

FAQs on Maths Worksheet for Kids| One Step Equations

1. Can these questions be solved in one step?

Yes. These questions have been formulated in such a way that they can be solved by simply performing one-step mathematical operations.

2. Do the signs change when it changes the side of an equation?

Yes. The + sign becomes -. Multiplication becomes division and vice versa when a number changes its side.

3. How many sides are there in an equation?

There are two sides to a one-step equation. They are the left-hand side and the right-hand side. Generally, we perform the mathematical operations on the right-hand side by keeping the variable on the left-hand side of an equation.

4. Is it easier to solve one-step equations?

Focus on the changes in signs and perform the mathematical operations accordingly. Carefully add, subtract, multiply or divide on the right side of the equation and get the answer.

5. How do we represent an unknown quantity in a one-step equation?

We generally use an English letter to represent the unknown quantity in a one-step equation and solve to find its value.
