What is International Olympic Day?

Every year, the International Olympic Day was celebrated on the 23rd of June. World Olympic day was celebrated to commemorate the foundation of the International Olympic Committee. The Olympic games are conducted once in four years. Players from all over the world will participate in Olympic games to represent their country and make it prove by winning medals.

History Behind World Olympic Day 

According to Olympic history,  the International Olympic day was mainly celebrated to commemorate the foundation of the International Olympic Committee at the Sorbonne in Paris. The International Olympic Committee was founded on 23rd June 1894. Pierre de Coubertin a French educator and historian was the founder and second president of the International Olympic Committee. Demetrios Vikelas, a Greek businessman took charge as the first president of the International Olympic Committee and was retained in the post from 1894 to 1896. Nine National Olympic Committees are started to celebrate International Olympic Day on 23rd June 1948. The list of countries that took part in the National Olympic Committee is Canada, Portugal, Austria, Greece, Venezuela and Belgium.
