World Dance Day

The International Dance Day date is the 29th of April each year that marks the birth anniversary of renowned Jean Georges Noverre. When it comes to self-expression, dance is one of the first things that comes to our minds. It is an unconstrained form of art that allows us to put our thoughts forward through graceful and energetic movements following a rhythm of choice, without bounds. To respect this delightful and outspoken art form, we commemorate International Dance Day like any other day of celebration.

World Dance Day

International Dance Day or happy dance day is a globally celebrated annual day of observance of dance. The celebration of world dance day was initially begun by the ITI or International Theatre Institute, which is the principal associate for the performing arts of UNESCO. The day endeavors to promote the engagement of the youth and impart education about dance through various events and presentations organized in every country on the world dance day date worldwide.

Significance of This Day

Dance is a universal form of performing arts; that cuts across cultural, political, and ethnic restrictions. It is healthy for the body, heart, mind, and soul and has been established as a form of happiness in many people's lives. Hence, happy International Dance Day is highly significant in today’s world.

Themes of International Dance Day

Similar to any other day of major significance, the dance committee of international theatre or ITI, with the partnership of UNESCO, sets a theme for International Dance Day every year. These themes interrelate several social subjects of importance with self-expressive dance performances to convey various opinions to the public.

Theme For 2019

The theme for world dance day 2019 was 'dance and spirituality.' It highlighted the connection of spiritual traditions or beliefs of people across the world. The theme conveys messages about what spells it involves to connect an individual to their inner spirit and face the pre-existing aspect of this refined expression.

Theme For 2021

The theme for happy world dance day 2019 was 'purpose of dance.' It displayed the numerous purposes of dance as a distinct and unique performing art by expressing opinions through dance forms from around the world.

As dance is experimentally proven to be a desirable outlet of expression and communication of emotion, it helps in releasing powerful feelings into the environment to feel less overwhelmed. As the global pandemic shook the world in 2020, the celebration was carried forward online through video compilations and other campaigns and events to keep the spirit of this day intact.
