What is the AFCAT Exam?


The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is led by the Indian Air Force. The test is held every year in February and August, solely, to pick-up Class-I Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical).


AFCAT is a section for both male and female contenders who wish to join the Indian Air Force for both Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission/Short Service in Ground Duties for both Technical and Non-Technical occupations.

Eligibility

Instructive Qualification

  • For Technical Branch: Candidates must be either showing up or qualified for a 4-year degree and having finished Sections A and B Examination of Associate Membership of the Indian Institute of Engineers or Aeronautical Society with at least 60%. 

  • For Ground Duty (Non-Technical): B. Com. Graduate with at least 60% imprints. For training official post, the applicants ought to have MBA/MCA or M.A./M.Sc Degree in English/ Physics/ International Studies/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Statistics/ International Relations/ Defense Studies/ Psychology/ Computer Science/ IT/ Management/ Journalism/ Public Relation/ Mass Communication with least of 50% and have scored least 60% in graduation.

Syllabus

  1. AFCAT Syllabus for English

Salary

7. What are the criteria for eligibility for the AFCAT exam?

AFCAT exam is held all over the country in order to employ candidates in generally three branches and the criteria of eligibility are different for all three. 

  • Flying Branch – The Age of the candidate for the flying branch must be above 23 years when the course begins. Candidates must have finished their Graduation of three-year in any discipline from an elected University and with a minimum of 60% aggregate in all papers together. It is mandatory that the candidate should have cleared maths and physics at the school level that is 10+2 level or at B. Tech level with 60% marks minimum aggregate in all papers together. 

  • Technical Branch- The age of the candidate must be somewhere between 18 to 28 years for the Technical branch when the course starts. Candidates must have finished their Graduation of three-year in any discipline from an elected University and with a minimum of 60% aggregate in all papers together. It is mandatory that the candidate should have cleared maths and physics at the school level that is 10+2 level or at B. Tech level with 60% marks minimum aggregate in all papers together. 

  • Ground Duty Branch- For the Ground Duty branch, the age must be somewhere between 20-23 years for Graduates, 20-25 years for Post Graduates and  20-26 years for LLB, and 20-27 years for candidates who have completed M.Ed./PhD/CA/ICWA.

8. What are the diverse kinds of the commission said to be in AFCAT?

PC intended for Male officers - Candidates that join as PC officers would go on to be employed till the time of the superannuation arrives according to their rank and branch. 


SSC intended for Women and Men both: The time of appointment for Flying Branch SSC officers is right now fourteen years starting from the date they were commissioned and is Non-extendable under any circumstances.
