Happiness Story in English Explained 

Once upon a time, there was a young man who wanted to learn the secret to happiness. He searched far and wide but could not find the answer to the question that he had. Finally, he arrived at a place where people told him that a wise man lived nearby. When he went to the wise man’s house, he expected him to be some age-like person. But it was not like that.

The Wise Man’s Castle

When he arrived at the wise man’s place, he saw that there were many traders there. People were talking around the corners. He also heard an orchestra that was playing soft music and he also saw a table filled with platters consisting of the best foods from around the world. The house was more like a castle. He saw the wise man speak to a lot of people and hence he had to wait for a long time before he could talk to the man.

The Wise Man’s Task 

When he finally got to the wise man, he started sharing his thoughts on how he wanted to learn the secret to happiness. The wise man heard everything intently but finally said that he didn’t have an answer to his question. But he wanted the young man to take a look at his castle and see the amazing things that he had there. He also had an important task for the young man. The wise man took a spoon and filled it with some oil.

He gave the spoon to the man and said, “Take this spoonful of oil and have a look at my castle. But make sure that the oil is not spilt from the spoon.” The young man then went to explore the castle and when he came back the wise man asked him about his trip. He asked the young man if he had seen the Persian paintings, the beautiful structures, and the marvelous walls that he had in his home. Sadly, the young man wasn’t able to see anything since he was just concerned about the spoonful of oil spilling on the ground. But the wise man gave him a second chance and told him to go look at all the things that he had missed in the castle.

Relieved, the man started again and this time he truly looked at and appreciated the beautiful things that the castle had. When the young man returned, he explained how the castle was truly amazing and that he had looked at all the wonderful things. But when the wise man asked him about the spoonful of oil, the young man said that there wasn’t any in the spoon because he had split it.

Wise Words From the Wise Man 

The young man was very disappointed that he had spilt the oil from the spoon while looking at the things in the castle. The wise man then said, “This is the secret to happiness. You must enjoy all the wonderful and beautiful things that the world gives you. Appreciate each and every single aspect of the world but you mustn’t forget about the spoonful of oil.” The young man finally understood the secret to happiness.
