The Moral Story of Hansel and Gretel

Once upon a time, Hansel and Gretel, who were brother and sister, lived with their father in the woods in a small cottage. Their father was a poor woodcutter. The kids' mother had passed away while they were too young. When their father eventually remarried, he believed he would no longer be lonely. But Hansel and Gretel had a really difficult time with the new stepmother. 

After the stepmother had cleared her plate of everything she wanted, the kids were finally permitted to eat. There would barely be a crust of bread remaining. They were also ask to do difficult tasks all day long. Hensel and Gratel had to consume less and less food every day. However, the stepmother continued to assign them challenging tasks. Gretel requested her father one day, saying, "Please, Father! We work hard all day, and now we're starving.” However, the stepmother slapped her in the face. "You brats without gratitude!" She screamed. "You're going to gobble us up whole!"

The two kids were forbidden from sleeping in the cabin that night. They trembled and held one other close as they waited outside in the cold. Gretel looked at her younger brother and said, “We can't remain here. Today, we must flee into the woods. When we are on our own, we will undoubtedly discover more food than we do at home.”

"Do you think so? Hansel stated. "But what if we get lost?"

“We won't”, Gretel said. "I have some bread. We'll leave a trail of breadcrumbs. We can track the crumbs home if we have to.”

They left their difficult life behind and ventured off into the woods. They ventured more and farther into the forest. Gretel carefully dropped one crumb, followed shortly by another.

Yet alas! They searched endlessly for any indication of food, such as an apple tree, pear tree, some ground-level nuts, or even dried-up berries. Nothing was available to eat! They were starving from a long time and were very hungry. Finally, Hansel and Gretel realised that they must go back to their hut or they would definitely die of starving. Following the breadcrumbs that they left behind were the only option they had to get back home. However, when they searched for the breadcrumbs, they couldn't find any since they had all vanished.

A huge crumb was in the beak of a bird that flew into the air. Hansel and Gretel were disheartened because all of their breadcrumbs had apparently been taken by the birds. The sun was setting and both of them were too scared by then. They were lost and hungry. Gretel suddenly saw a tiny light gleaming in the distance. “In the middle of the woods, could this possibly be a hut?” Gretel said. "We must learn! Perhaps whoever resides can be kind and will accept us." Both Hansel and Gretel ran as quickly as they could to reach towards the light.

But they were shocked to find an evil witch inside the hut. She wanted to eat Hansel and Gretel as soon as she saw them. She took hold of the kids and put them in a cage. The witch made the choice to first throw Hansel into the boiling soup and devour him. She started to boil water for the soup in a large saucepan. 

Gretel somehow managed to escape her cage at that very moment. She powerfully shoved the evil witch from behind, causing her to fall into the boiling water. She screamed in pain before dying immediately. Gretel and Hansel discovered hidden riches there were stored in the hut. They brought it back with them. On seeing them, their father welcomed them back with tears of relief and also informed them about their stepmother's death. They never again experienced poverty or cruelty again!

Never trust a stranger even if they treat you well.
