Complete answer: Guru Arjan Dev was the Sikh faith's first martyr. The first official version of the Sikh scripture, called the Adi Granth, was compiled by him and later expanded into the Guru Granth Sahib. During the reign of the Mughal Empire, he was born in 1563 in Goindwal, Tarn Taran District. On June 16, 1606, Guru Arjan Dev was martyred in Lahore. After being tortured by the Mughal government headed by Emperor Jahangir for five days, Guru Arjan died. On June 16 each year the Sikhs observe the martyrdom of the Sikh Guru Arjan. His martyrdom is remembered by Guru Arjan's Shaheedi Divas. The place where Guru Arjun Dev Ji's body was extinct in the River Ravi, Gurudwara Dera Sahib (now in Pakistan) has been constructed. For his humility, Shri Guru Arjun Dev Ji is remembered. Arjan Dev laid the base of the Golden Temple in 1588 AD and also prepared the temple's map. On August 16, 1604, Guru Arjan Dev extended the Sikh scripture written by the previous Gurus and placed a copy of the Adi Granth in the completed temple of Harmandir Sahib and declared Baba Buddha as the first Granthi. He also contributed more than 2,000 hymns himself, which in the Guru Granth Sahib was more than a third and the largest collection of hymns. After him, Guru Arjan Dev's son, Hargobind Singh, became the sixth Sikh guru.

Note: -The history of Sikhism's ten gurus extends from the birth of Nanak Dev in1469, through the life of Guru Gobind Singh.
-Guru Gobind Singh transferred the title of Guru to the Sikh scripture, Guru Granth, at the time of his death in 1708.
-The town named "Ramdaspur" was founded by Guru Arjan's father, Guru Ram Das.
