Hint: The term environment has been derived from a French word “Environia” means to surround. The word environment means surroundings in which organisms live.
The branch of science which deals with the study of origin, transport, reactions, effects and fate of chemical species in the environment is known as Environmental Chemistry.
Complete answer:
> The environment can be defined as a sum total of all the living and non-living elements and their effects which influence human life. So the environment includes factors and conditions in the surroundings which may have an impact on the development, action or survival of an organism or group of organisms.
> It includes living and nonliving elements. Living elements are called biotic elements which include animals, plants, forests, fisheries, and birds, etc. Non-living elements are called abiotic elements which include water, land, sunlight, rocks, and air, etc.
> Environment helps life to grow, nourish and destroy on this planet called earth. Natural environment plays a vital role in the existence of life on earth and it helps human beings, animals and other living things to grow. But due to some bad and selfish activities of the human beings, our environment to keep it safe forever as well as ensure the nature’s balance on this planet to continue the existence of life. If we don’t start protecting our environment then there is a huge possibility that we cannot save our mother earth.
Note: Environmental Chemistry is so vast that it includes the atoms, the molecules, reaction mechanisms of not only pollutants or pollution chemistry but of healthy chemistry too. Environmental Chemistry includes Biochemistry, Geochemistry etc.
