Hint: India has an election commission which is appointed by the President of India and is out of the control of the governments undergoing election.

Complete answer:
The Elections in India are democratic due to the following reasons:
Independent Election Commission: The Election Commission in India is independent and holds elections in every state and also at the centre. The Election Commission is free from government control and takes over the command of the governments undergoing elections while the elections are under progress.

Universal Adult Franchise: Every adult in India is allowed to vote regardless of his physical condition.

Anyone can contest the elections: Any sound person who is not a convicted criminal can contest an election in India provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria.
The elections are held periodically: The elections are held periodically which are not called upon by the governments but by the election commission itself.

Note: The State Assembly and the Parliamentary elections are conducted by the Central Election Commission whereas the Local Body Elections in India are conducted by the Election Commission of the respective states. However, the states do not appoint their own Election Commissioners but they are appointed by the President of India.
