Hint: One of the major reasons for monsoon in India is the south east trade winds. These trade winds are responsible for bringing rain bearing clouds to the Indian subcontinent.
Complete Answer:When the sun is directly over the tropic of cancer the regions which are present near the tropic of cancer start to heat up and they develop a low pressure zone. The regions near the equator develop a high pressure zone. As winds blow from high pressure to low pressure therefore winds start blowing from the equator to the tropic of cancer and capricorn.
Now the southeast trade winds of the southern hemisphere start blowing in the southwest direction after they cross the equator. They start blowing from the southwest to the northeast direction because of the influence of the coriolis force.
As these winds travel over the Indian Ocean they collect moisture along the way. As they reach land their direction gets altered because of the relief features present. In India the winds divide into two branches i.e the Arabian Sea branch and the Bay of Bengal branch.
These winds are the reason why monsoon happens not only in India but in the entire South Asia.
Note: Trade winds are also known as easterlies because they are permanent east to west prevailing winds that flow in the earth’s equatorial region. Captains of sailing ships used these trade winds to cross the world’s oceans for centuries. They blow from the northeast in the northern hemisphere however in the southern hemisphere they blow from the southeast.
