Hint: A lunar eclipse occurs when our planet Earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon. There are two types of lunar eclipse: the total lunar eclipse and the partial lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipse have been categorized into two parts because of the fraction of Earth that comes in between the Earth and the Moon.
Complete step-by-step answer:
During a lunar eclipse we cannot see the moon because the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon due to which it casts a shadow on the Moon due to sunlight falling on the Earth and since the Earth comes in their way, the Moon is not able to get sunlight and therefore is not able to reflect it due to which it appears dark. The two types of lunar eclipse are total lunar eclipse and partial lunar eclipse. In a total lunar eclipse, the Earth completely blocks the rays coming from the sun to reach the moon hence the moon completely appears dark while in a partial lunar eclipse, as the name suggests, the Earth only partially blocks the sunlight to reach the moon and hence the moon does not completely appear to be dark.
Note: A lunar eclipse only happens on full Moon day. A full Moon day means that we can see the Moon completely from the Earth. In a lunar eclipse the sky gets darker. We must refrain ourselves from watching a lunar eclipse because those rays are harmful in nature and may cause blindness.
