Hint Located in East-Central India, Chhattisgarh is one of the 29 states of India and the name Chhattisgarh translates to ‘thirty-six forts’. The state was formed on 1st November 2000 and was earlier a part of Madhya Pradesh, one of its neighboring states.

Complete step-by-step solution
Before Independence, the present-day state of Chhattisgarh was divided into Central Provinces and Berar (a British province) along with several princely states that were scattered all over the north, south, and east regions. After Independence, the princely states were merged with the Central Provinces and Berar to form the new state of Madhya Pradesh. On 1st November 2000, after the split of 16 districts from Madhya Pradesh, a new state named Chhattisgarh was formed. Later two new districts were added to the state and on 1st January 2012, the Chhattisgarh government announced 9 new districts, for a total of 27. On 15 August 2019, the Chhattisgarh chief minister announced the creation of Chhattisgarh's 28th district, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, which would be carved out of Bilaspur district which was eventually inaugurated on 10th February 2020. Hence, the state of Chhattisgarh has 28 administrative districts.

Thus, option (C) is correct.

Additional Information Chhattisgarh originally had 16 districts when it was carved out of Madhya Pradesh. In the 1920s, the demand for a separate state was first raised and that led to the creation of Chhattisgarh.

Note Chhattisgarh is one of the cleanest states in India and received the status for the second time, as per the 'Swachh Survekshan 2020' at the Swachh Mahotsav. Present-day Chhattisgarh comprised seven districts that earlier belonged to Madhya Pradesh.
