SHRESHTA Scholarships Open Doors for Meritorious SC Students: Here's How to Apply

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released guidelines for the SHRESHTA scheme 2023-24, offering scholarships and residential education to bright students from Scheduled Caste communities. Interested private residential schools affiliated with CBSE can now apply to join the initiative.

Who Can Apply?

  • Private residential schools affiliated with CBSE for at least 5 years.

  • Schools with a minimum pass percentage of 75% in Class 10 and 12 for the last 3 years.

  • Equipped with infrastructure to accommodate at least 10 additional SC students in Classes 9 and 11.


Benefits for Students:

  • 3000 meritorious SC students will be selected annually through a National Entrance Test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

  • Selected students receive scholarships and the opportunity to study at top residential schools affiliated with CBSE.

  • Web counselling ensures students are placed in schools based on their merit and preferences.


How Schools Can Apply:

  • Interested schools must directly send their consent to the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment (DoSJE).

  • Ensure all eligibility criteria are met before giving consent.

  • Once approved, schools cannot refuse allocated students.


Key Dates:

  • The application process for schools is ongoing.

  • The National Entrance Test for students will likely be held in April or May 2024.
