Birsa Muna became a legendary figure due to his contributions as a freedom fighter and social reformer. Also, he fought the British colonial government against the exploitative system and led the tribal community, earning him the title of ‘Bhagwan’. He oragnized a tribal movement named “Ulgulan” (Revolt) and encouraged tribals to understand their cultural roots and maintain unity.

The Education Ministry said, “To commemorate the contribution of the tribal freedom fighter, the Ministry of Education, in association with the AICTE, UGC, Central Universities, Private Universities, other HEIs, CBSE, KVS, NVS and Skilling institutions, are celebrating Janjatiya Gaurav Divas”. To celebrate the day, there will be various events like debate competitions on the theme ‘Contribution of Janjati Heroes in freedom struggle’, and social activities in educational institutions across the country.

The aim of conducting such activities in educational institutions is to highlight the contribution of leaders like Bhagwan Birsa Mundra and others. The students will also be felicitated for their good work, as communicated by the Ministry.

According to the Ministry of Education, these celebrations will inspire generations to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the tribal freedom fighters for the country and take the legacy of such leaders ahead. It is also important for students to conserve the tribal culture, art and rich heritage.
