Summary of Class 4 Chapter 6- Omana’s Journey

This chapter is a diary entry of Omana about her trip. Omana and her best friend Radha were very excited as they were going to visit Kerala. It was her grandmother’s house, and Radha was going with her family on a holiday. However, two days before their journey Radha met with an accident. This led to the cancellation of her trip and both the friends became very sad. Then, Radha’s amma came up with the idea that Omana could write everything down in her diary and read it to Radha once she returns.

The diary entry begins on 16th May, when Omana reaches the station and checks the name on the reservation chart. The train had started early in the morning from Gandhidham in Kutch. This led to a lot of rush when the train arrived. However, Omana managed to get in and put the luggage under her seat. After some time, the collector came to check the tickets. Then. She describes her journey and the mouth-watering lunch. After lunch, she started looking out of the window as she was not sleepy. She saw many fields and passed some small villages.

In the evening, there was some breeze and the sun had slowly started to set. She says that she had not seen such a look back in Ahmedabad. Later, she describes the station called Valsad. She says that even though the train stopped for just two minutes, there was too much noise from the vendors selling tea, milk and vada. Then, she talks about purchasing bananas and choosing from the widow itself. She goes on to describe the new friends that she made- Sunil and Ann. They were going to their grandmother's house in Kozhikode. Sunil had given her some storybooks which she could read. Later, she ends by saying that she went to brush her teeth but there was no water in the bathroom and that somebody had informed her that it will only be filled in the next big station.
