Eligibility and Admission Process for B.Arch via JEE Main 2027

Top colleges offering B.Arch through JEE include NIT Tiruchirappalli, NIT Calicut, the Schools of Planning and Architecture in Delhi, Bhopal and Vijayawada, and several other public institutions. For most participating colleges, admission is through JEE Main Paper 2A, while IITs follow the JEE Advanced and Architecture Aptitude Test route. This list of top colleges that offer B.Arch courses through JEE will help you plan for 2027 admissions. If you are preparing for NEET 2027 and considering architecture as an alternative, remember that NEET scores do not provide admission to B.Arch.

B.Arch Admission Through JEE in 2027

Bachelor of Architecture is a five-year undergraduate degree covering architectural design, building construction, structures, environmental design and practical training. Choosing the correct entrance examination is your first step: B.Arch, B.Planning and B.Tech have different admission requirements.

Admission route Relevant examination Selection process
Participating NITs, SPAs and other centrally funded institutions JEE Main Paper 2A B.Arch rank and JoSAA counselling; eligible vacancies through CSAB
IITs offering B.Arch JEE Advanced and AAT JEE Advanced rank, AAT qualification and JoSAA counselling
Institutions using separate admission systems JEE Main Paper 2A where accepted Separate application or counselling under institutional rules

2027 planning note: The routes below reflect established admission practices, not a confirmed 2027 seat matrix. Check the JEE Main 2027 information bulletin, JoSAA and CSAB business rules, and each institution’s admission notice before applying. Dates, seats, fees and eligibility conditions may change.

List of Top B.Arch Colleges Through JEE Main

The following shortlist includes established architecture colleges that have used JEE Main Paper 2A for admission. It is not a numerical ranking or a list of all colleges that offer architecture. Compare the course, location, total cost and counselling route before deciding your preference order.

National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli Tamil Nadu JoSAA / CSAB
National Institute of Technology Calicut Kerala JoSAA / CSAB
National Institute of Technology Rourkela Odisha JoSAA / CSAB

Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi Separate university application and admission process

CSAB special rounds depend on vacancies and separate registration requirements; they are not guaranteed additional admission rounds for every college. For Chandigarh College of Architecture and Jamia Millia Islamia, do not assume that registering for JoSAA also registers you for their admissions.

IITs Offering B.Arch Through JEE Advanced

IIT Kharagpur, IIT Roorkee and IIT (BHU) Varanasi have offered B.Arch through the JEE Advanced route. JEE Main Paper 2A alone does not qualify you for B.Arch admission at these IITs.

  1. Meet the eligibility requirements for JEE Advanced, including the relevant JEE Main Paper 1 qualification requirement for applicable candidates.
  2. Appear for both compulsory JEE Advanced papers and qualify under the applicable rules.
  3. Register separately for the Architecture Aptitude Test and qualify it.
  4. Fill eligible B.Arch choices during JoSAA counselling.

Under the established system, AAT is a qualifying test and does not produce a separate admission rank. Seat allocation uses the JEE Advanced rank among eligible AAT-qualified candidates. Confirm the participating IITs and complete eligibility requirements in the JEE Advanced 2027 brochure.

Eligibility for B.Arch Admission in 2027

Being eligible to take an entrance examination is different from being eligible for admission. Check both sets of conditions before paying application fees or building your college shortlist.

  • Class 12 subjects: For the NIT+ B.Arch route, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics have been required in the qualifying examination. Do not assume that Biology can replace Mathematics.
  • Board marks: Recent NIT+ admission rules have required at least 75% aggregate or a position within the category-wise top 20 percentile of the relevant board. The percentage threshold has been 65% for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Verify the 2027 rules and prescribed subject calculation.
  • Other admission routes: Council of Architecture requirements and institution-specific rules must also be checked. A diploma accepted under one architecture admission route does not automatically establish eligibility for every JEE-based route.
  • Droppers: Recent JEE Main rules have allowed candidates who passed Class 12 in either of the previous two years or are appearing in the examination year. If unchanged, this would cover 2025 and 2026 pass-outs and 2027 appearing candidates; the official bulletin must confirm this.
  • Age and attempts: JEE Main has recently had no examination-level age limit, but institutional conditions may apply. JEE Advanced has separate age, attempt and qualifying-examination rules.

Guidance for NEET 2027 Aspirants Considering Architecture

If you study PCB without Mathematics, B.Arch through the NIT+ JEE route is not an automatic backup option. PCMB students may meet the subject requirement, but must still satisfy all other eligibility conditions. NEET preparation does not cover the Mathematics, architectural aptitude and drawing preparation needed for JEE Main Paper 2A.

Before preparing for both examinations, assess your interest in design, your Mathematics foundation and your available study time. Architecture involves sustained studio work, technical learning and design presentations—not only sketching.

How to Compare Cutoffs, Fees and College Quality

There is no single percentile that guarantees admission to the top B.Arch colleges in India through JEE Main. For JoSAA choices, compare your Paper 2A rank with official opening and closing ranks, rather than using B.Tech cutoffs or a generic marks-to-college estimate.

  • Match the cutoff details: Use the same programme, category, quota, gender pool and counselling round. Check whether the published number is a common rank or category rank.
  • Check the full five-year cost: Include tuition, hostel, mess, deposits, travel, printing, model-making materials and a suitable computer. Older fee figures may exclude major expenses.
  • Review architecture-specific facilities: Look for design studios, workshops, library resources, software access and opportunities for site visits.
  • Check course recognition: Verify the B.Arch programme’s current Council of Architecture approval and sanctioned intake.
  • Read relevant outcome data: Review architecture internships, graduate portfolios and department-level career information. Institute-wide engineering salary figures do not describe B.Arch outcomes.

Build a balanced shortlist with ambitious, realistic and lower-cutoff options based on historical ranks. None is guaranteed. During choice filling, arrange colleges in your genuine preference order rather than placing a less-preferred college first simply because its previous cutoff was lower.

Practical Steps for Your 2027 Application

  1. Choose the correct paper: Select Paper 2A for B.Arch. Paper 2B is for B.Planning. Add Paper 1 if required for your intended IIT route.
  2. Prepare for the actual syllabus: Use the official Paper 2A syllabus for Mathematics, aptitude and drawing. Include timed drawing practice alongside problem-solving.
  3. Track separate registrations: Maintain a checklist for NTA, JoSAA, CSAB and any university or regional counselling applications relevant to your choices.
  4. Prepare documents: Keep qualifying-examination records, identity proof, score details and applicable category, income, domicile or disability certificates ready in the prescribed formats.
  5. Check the live seat matrix: Confirm that your preferred programme is participating before locking choices.
  6. Complete all admission actions: Follow seat-acceptance payment, document verification, query-response and institute-reporting deadlines.

For B.Arch admission in 2027, start with the right entrance route: JEE Main Paper 2A for participating NITs, SPAs and other institutions, or JEE Advanced plus AAT for eligible IIT programmes. Use this college list as a shortlist, then verify current eligibility, counselling participation, cutoffs and total costs. If you are also preparing for NEET 2027, confirm your Mathematics eligibility and preparation capacity before treating architecture as an alternative.
